Let’s look at some examples of how Diamond Logic can enhance the safety of your crew and equipment as well as boost the productivity potential of each shift.

SAFETY

Various functions, including pre-trip inspections, interlocks, solenoid air packs and equipment status lights, can be programmed to help ensure driver safety and assist in protecting your vehicle.

Boom Hydraulics:/strong> Diamond Logic can prevent the transmission from shifting into drive and can illuminate an indicator light until the boom is stowed correctly.
Outriggers: Diamond Logic can control deployment and sense when they are not properly stowed (not letting transmission come out of neutral) and will illuminate an indicator light in the switch pack.
Differential Lock: Diamond Logic can control when the axle differential locks and unlocks depending on road speed, protecting the driveline from damage due to excessive speeds in a locked position.
Solenoid Air Packs: Air can be turned on with a switch in the dash or controlled based on chassis and/or body functions. For example, tailgate air lock in dump applications can be programmed to not unlock unless the truck is driving below a certain speed.

PRODUCTIVITY

Diamond Logic can boost the efficiency of daily operations with interlocks that make the job easier for the crew. For example, remote body switches on a cement mixer can be programmed to control chutes and water valves – even the buttons on the key fob (on certain models) can be programmed to perform desired tasks.

Pre-Trip Light Inspections:
Driver can press a button and all the exterior lights will blink in sequence, allowing daily DOT light inspection with just one person.
Power Take Off Control: Electric control with dash-mounted switch includes audible alarm and indicator light in gauge cluster. This provides safe control of the power take off with multiple interlocks.
Work Light: Diamond Logic can automatically turn the light on or off based on chassis functions (for example, the rear-facing light could be programmed to turn on any time the transmission is in reverse, adding additional lighting) and automatically shut off the light based on a set forward speed.
Power Take Off:
Engagement and disengagement can be based on chassis and body conditions (engine speed, road speed, outrigger deployed before boom can raise, park brake set, transmission in neutral, etc.). Certain data links can be used as an interlock, including RPM, MPH, park brake and gear position. In most cases, engine speed can be controlled while using the PTO with no additional wiring needed.
Remote Key Functions:
Several International Truck models feature a programmable key fob that allows two Diamond Logic tasks (such as pre-trip light inspection) to be activated with the push of a button.

SUSTAINABILITY

There is no question that electric vehicles are better for the planet. Electricity generation is rapidly moving away from coal-burning plants toward much-cleaner natural gas plants as well as renewable sources including solar, wind, geothermal and hydro. This switch in power generation will mean much less greenhouse emissions released into the atmosphere – not to mention particulate matter like soot. Another, less talked about benefit is the reduction of noise pollution. Cities and their citizens appreciate quiet neighborhoods – whether in a green suburb or concrete jungle. Electric motors offer a welcome reprieve from the noise of gas and diesel engines accelerating from a stop or powering up a hill. When all the benefits of electric-powered vehicles are considered for municipalities, city managers may be more likely to hire contractors that use electric vehicles to meet sustainability goals as well as reduce noise levels in neighborhoods.

DRIVE COMFORT

Who doesn’t want to spend their working day in a quiet, smooth environment? Electric trucks provide a tranquil cabin that makes it easy for drivers to concentrate on the road. Plus, quiet power makes it easy to communicate with others at the worksite – like from an elevated bucket to workers on the ground. Plus, there’s no learning curve that must be mastered before driving. In fact, International® Truck has engineered the eMV™ Series to perform in a similar fashion to that of the diesel-powered MV™ Series. The only technique drivers should become familiar with in order to maximize range would be utilizing regenerative braking. Also referred to as “one pedal driving” – this feature slows down the truck when the driver lifts their foot off the accelerator. The regenerative braking system takes over, and instead of using the brakes, the system slows the vehicle while sending supplemental power to the batteries. In the eMV there are three levels of regenerative braking (or the system can be turned off altogether – good for coasting downhill, for example), allowing the driver to choose the mode they feel most comfortable with. This feature is perfect for stop-and-go driving and has the added benefit of extending the life of the standard brakes. You only need the standard brakes to bring the vehicle to a complete stop.

LOWER MAINTENANCE REQUIREMENTS

Electric vehicles offer an additional benefit compared to diesel-powered vehicles by making maintenance a much simpler task. Aside from wear items like tires, electric vehicle service intervals tend to be extended much further than an equivalent diesel-powered truck.

Here is a quick list of SOME of the items you don’t have to worry about:
